Winners & Shortlisted entries announced

Prefab 20*20: Visions for 400 SF Homes, an international open ideas competition organized by Architecture For Humanity Vancouver, Architectural Institute of British Columbia, Interior Design Show West 2009, and sponsored by Azure Magazine, recently announced the winners and shortlisted entries.

Prefab 20*20 challenges designers to propose a free-standing, prefab dwelling unit for a footprint no more than 400sf (37.5sm) in an urban setting anywhere in the world. Fit for two adults, its basic program shall include sleeping, bathing, cooking, living, working/studying, and storage areas.

285 teams from 149 cities / 26 countries responded to the call. The winner, 2 runner ups, 4 honorable mentions, and 16 shortlisted entries will be displayed at the IDSwest 2009 (September 17-20 2009) in Vancouver, BC.

Members of Prefab 20*20 jury include Oliver Lang, Principal, Lang Wilson Practice in Architecture Culture; George Wagner, Chair of Architecture, University of British Columbia; Maged Senbel, School of Community and Regional Planning, UBC; Michael Geller, Architect, Adjunct Professor, Centre for Sustainable Community Development, SFU; Duane Elverum, Educator, Researcher & Designer, Emily Carr University; Kristina Lee Podesva, Artist, Assistant Editor, Fillip Review. Facilitating Members include Jason Heard, Show Director, IDSwest; Patrick Chan, Educator & Researcher, Emily Carr University; Linus Lam, Executive Director, Architecture For Humanity Vancouver.

As part of LivingDensity Exhibition and Forum, and in collaboration the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, Azure Magazine, and Interior Design Show West, Architecture For Humanity Vancouver proudly presents PREFAB 20*20: Visions For 400 Square Foot Homes, An International Open Ideas Competition.

Open to all designers, architects, engineers, artists and students around the world, PREFAB 20*20 challenges you to propose a free-standing, prefab dwelling unit for a footprint no more than 400sf (37.5sm) in an urban setting anywhere in the world. Fit for two adults, its basic program shall include sleeping, bathing, cooking, living, working/studying, and storage areas.
